What would Google Do?

Its a great book, and I am only 60 pages in. So What would Google Do?

The book is by Jeff Jarvis, oh he of the “Dell Hell” incident, and in it he deconstructs what make the Big G tick, and come up with some business lessons, that others can adopt in life.

Today, in a meeting about how we could convince Manager A of how doing A and B would simply be a dilution of time, effort and resource, I actually found myself scribbling in my moleskin ( aka cheap version from CNA) ” What would the G do”.

The conversation raged on between brand and product, and I got bored, so I added some emphasis to the scribbles.

The Conversation carried on.

Starting to get hungry, so I jumped in.

“What would Google do” I asked Manager A. “Compare the home page of Google to Yahoo” Who has won?

Everyone looked at me blankly, and then like the cold front blowing away, they said Google would do one thing well, focus on the customer, and worry about the money later.

I walked out. Job Done. Thanks Mr Jarvis.

WWGD – love it! I never thought to take a successful brand a mimic decision making on their models. Smart and simple.
